This title is so misleading! He's a lawyer for a couple chapters, sure, but then the entire rest of the book has nothing to do with law or anything remotely tied to a court room. It's mindlessly entertaining and action packed, if you're looking for that.

The story is interesting and I kept going because I wanted to know what happened. The characters are stock-standard and shallow, but thrillers like these are not really about the characters - they're just there to carry the story and the events. After a while I got pretty sick of the short chapters and the cliffhangers, but again, that's part of the genre. It's a first novel, and I suspect this writer will end up doing well. But I don't think I'll bother with him again.

THE JURY MASTER is a fast-paced novel that I had such a hard time not stopping my life to listen to. It was supposed to be my on-the-way-to-and-from-chemo book, but it became something I'd sneak in whenever I could too.

Often it takes more than a few paragraphs before I feel for a character. It's a rare occurrence, me tearing up at a brand new character before the first chapter is completed. And yet... Robert Dugoni has a way of getting at the heart of his characters with such speed and precision that you know them in three sentences or less.

I can't wait to read book two, so I think that says everything else that I could say in long-winded paragraphs.

Good first book, hopefully it improves some on the outlying characters and the pacing as it moves on.

Pages of continuous, horrific violence.

Not the usual genre I read. It was a little awkward at first to wrap my brain around what was going on, but once the story got going and my brain got going, I really enjoyed it. The twists weren't huge surprises to me, but I thought the writing was well done. It wasn't so much "What's going to happen" but "How."

This was wall-to-wall action. Too much action, not enough clue-giving, IMO. And, the title was misleading. You would think this would be a legal thriller, or courtroom drama. It is neither. It is a political thriller whose main character happens to be a lawyer. Anyway, it was a quick, interesting read, but I doubt I will be reading any more of these books.

While the book did come together in the end it felt very much disjointed. First, the title - The Jury Master - I was expecting more of a legal thriller a la John Grisham. This is not a legal thriller, but instead more of a life or death chase. I spent quite a bit of the book wondering if Sloane has an identical twin that he is unaware or if he had amnesia, because the "bad" guys know who he is but he has no idea who they are. Many characters were thrown into the story and that made it get a bit confusing at times. I came across the book because another book by this author was recommend, and I thought I would give this a try to see if I want to read more by Dugoni. I might read another book of Dugoni's but I'm not going to seek out his work. I will say this would be a thriller with a dash of Mexican mystical realism mixed into it.
