I enjoyed how this book portrayed Eve as strong, and not necessarily an airhead, despite being the curvy blond glass-half-full member of the three friends. I love how Sarah Morgan knowingly riffs on romance genre tropes in this series for whatever the "grand gesture" to end each book is. The story is fleshed out enough that we can suspend our disbelief, but recognizable enough to make us enjoy the cheesy romantic declarations.

This was a fun and sweet Christmas romance and I flew through it. The characters deal with some complex problems and I appreciate how they helped each other through it. I could see myself re-reading this around the holidays in a few years.

2.3*-ish.
I was disgusted by the first book in this series, but I liked another book I had read by this author, and I was in the mood for some romcoms, so I decided to give it another chance. This installment was marginally better than the first one (that was not a high bar to clear) as the male lead here is less revolting, not by a very wide margin though. The biggest problem for me is reliance on sex as a crutch to bolster an otherwise completely baseless relationship. I am not getting a love story from these books. In this one I am getting two sex-deprived individuals clamping on to each other because they are the first convenient and available person and then calling it love all of sudden and swooping in with peer-pressury "grand gestures" instead of doing anything real to actually build some sort of meaningful relationship with each other. Such an anticlimactic unromantic copout!

Was loving it right up until the end. The ending felt very rushed and  I had hopef for more. We spent so long seeing these characters grow together it felt like it went against it all

This was a heartwarming Christmas read, full of humor and heart. Both main characters are dealing with grief and the toll it has taken on their lives, especially during the holidays. When Eva shows up in Lucas' apartment to decorate for the holidays (hired by his Grandma), she is surprised to find Lucas there. The surprises don't end for either of them. Lucas discovers his hermit lifestyle needs Eva--to be a muse for his novel and then more. Eva needs Lucas to realize she doesn't need to power through the sadness. she can acknowledge her grief as a possible way to move on. Overall, an enjoyable holiday read and perfect fodder for the Hallmark movie lover (which I am!). I'd also love to read Lucas' novel based on the Eva-inspired serial killer! (Read courtesy of NetGalley.) Note: I haven't read the others in this series and didn't have any trouble reading this one on its own.
