It has been close to 30 years since I first read King's 1978 short story collection, so I decided to loop a reread into my spooky season TBR. The early heat of King's talent is on display in many of these shorts, although I felt a few were misses. It was interesting to find nods to other works, and read the prequel and sequel (of sorts) to Salem's Lot.

Personal favorites: The Boogeyman, a monster in the closet tale; Strawberry Spring, a serial killer mystery; and Quitters Incorporated, about a unique company that guarantees to help you kick the habit (I remember the fun James Woods adaptation from Cat's Eye). Children of the Corn was spooky, but I had forgotten how annoying the main characters were.

A good reread that makes me want to revisit more of King's short stories.
