This was an interesting short novella. I really liked it, though I found it a bit disturbing that those friends had a game called the Apocalypse game, which meant they had to think of a scenario that would end the world and discuss it.

I am sure there are more fun things to do on Friday night, more fun than making up doom scenarios.

The second half of this file is a scene from Feed, which was a bit disappointing - I expected the story itself to be longer. As a story, it was okay. Definitely a fucked up scenario, but doesn't really go anywhere, you know?

It's a good enough short story but has nothing to do with the Newsflesh series. In fact depending on how you interpret the ending, it even conflict the Newsflesh series. So I feel that it is misleading to cal this part of the same series. But, as I said it is a good story. Not worth $2 though.

So this has nothing to do with Newsflesh or zombies. I wasn't expecting it to. I enjoyed it a lot, and I wish it were more than a short story. It would make a fantastic intro to an apocalyptic adventure of chaos. I need a The Stand-sized follow up.

If you're looking for a quick read that will make you stop and think - Apocalypse Scenario #683: The Box is the short story for you. I almost wish I had read this when it first came out (2011), as I feel like it would have hit differently then, as opposed to now.

Fun fact: if you read this short as part of Mira Grant's Apocalypse Scenarios Anthology, there's a little forward comment about that fact. So that's much appreciated, even if it is still quite dark.

Apocalypse Scenario #683: The Box is twisted, but in a way that makes you think. The scenario should be completely out of the realm of possibilities, yet modern events probably changed that perspective a bit. I love the idea of a group of friends sitting around and chatting about how they would end the world. While morbid, it would certainly make you think, right?

Short story from Mira Grant ~ a bunch of friends are playing a game (Apocalypse) that they have been playing every week for 15 years ~ one of the friends doens't show but sends a tape recorded message ~ is she playing the game? Or has the game become real life?

A very enjoyable read.
