Pros:
  • An engaging read and filled with an interesting cast of characters.
  • The protagonist’s, Kyon, descriptive inner monologue was one of my favorite parts. He was fun to read as he has a hilarious sarcastic personality (he’s even more interesting here than how the anime portrayed him) and he does carry out the novel.
  • The illustrations were cute, while not the best drawn, still have a good image depending on the scene I’m on.
  • I appreciate how most scenes don’t overstay their welcome and we can just move on to the next scene without it feeling too fast. It was a good kind of quick for me.
  • I was invested in how Haruhi viewed the normal, everyday life and why she wanted the supernatural to come so badly.
  • The ending was pretty cute with Haruhi and Kyon. They both had a funny but cute relationship. Even tho I liked Asahina and Kyon together.

Cons:
  • The flow can be a bit confusing at times, such as when something supernatural is happening or if a scene moved forward to something else. Description could’ve been better.
  • Also, the description of the supernatural stuff/ anything strange happening could be better written to give me more of a ‘clear visualization’.
  • Haruhi can be a bit unlikable at times, tho that could be the point of her character of how she does what she pleases due to
    her being God
and even Kyon found her obnoxious. So it makes up for it for me.

Overall:
A nice, light read! I watched the anime before I read the light novel and this added the enjoyment. Gave more life to the protagonist than I expected. The main cast being
different types of supernatural while Kyon was some plain guy (without making him boring)
was fun to read and how it was explored. I’ll definitely read the rest of the series when I get the chance.

Favorite Quote:
“I won’t accept such a clichéd turn of events. I refuse to.” -Kyon (Page 252)
