I liked the idea of the book more then the execution. I just didn’t really enjoy Millie’s voice, it felt really young which makes sense but it just didn’t hit the right notes for me. I’d give some of her other books a shot though!

🔪 psychological thriller.
— slow-paced, multiple povs

“. . . no woman wants to be compared unfavorably to another. he’s an idiot if he doesn’t know that. then again, plenty of men are idiots.”

what a great way to start september! the story follows millie, a young woman with a criminal past, who gets employed as a housekeeper by a rich woman, nina winchester, one with a seeming mental health condition. and as the story goes, millie soon finds out that the rich family she’s working for have secrets of their own.

first of all, i got so interested with reading this book because i’ve seen a lot of videos on tiktok where some readers say that it was really an amazing thriller. this is one of my favorite reads this year. the plot is great and freida mcfadden’s writing style was perfect. all the characters in this book are all insane and weird. i actually don’t know what to feel when i was reading this—i was scared, confused, and excited on what’s going to happen in the next chapters. to be honest, the whole story was exhausting to read because it is full of twists and turns, but it is the type of exhaustion that i will always enjoy.

lastly, the plot twists in this book are amazing, unpredictable, and insane! overall, this book is a beautiful collection of mystery, thriller, and unexpected twists. if you want to get into thriller, you should definitely put this on top of your list.

I absolutely devoured this book.

The writing was faced paced and the end of every short chapter left me desperate to keep reading. The definition of a page turner.

I can't deny that the actual writing/prose wasn't amazing, but it was such an addictive read it didn't matter.

I decided to read this book as I realised that although I enjoy watching thrillers, I don't tend to read them. This has definitely been a good introduction to the genre.

Oh damm. Oh DAMM. OH DAMM. This is awesome. Millie is an ex-con looking for a new job after she was fired from her last job. Nina Winchester is looking for a housekeeper to help cook and clean but, also look after her daughter Cecelia occasionally. As Millie spends more and more time in the house she realizes that the perfect Winchesters aren't so perfect. This book is the perfect mix of slow burn and engaging. The plot unfolds at a nice pace but leaves a lot for the ending climax. My only real issue with this is a level of predictability. Not sure if its my Criminal Minds addiction or what but, The first few chapters of character description and background told me all I needed to know.
