Morning, readers. I read a book recently that was recommended to me by a dear friend A DECADE AGO but I never read. At the time, I was just coming out and exploring queer things, and my friend said I should read this memoir about a New York drag queen.

Well I finally knocked it out! And what’s interesting is considering how differently I would have perceived this book then versus now. Then, I had only ever met one drag queen and I had yet to really explore giving less of a shit about my own gender expression. I had a less well-rounded idea of sex work. And I’d yet to live in Manhattan myself.

I AM NOT MYSELF THESE DAYS is funny and entertaining but also deals with alcoholism and non-traditional professional and romantic relationships. Recommend if you’re in the market for such a memoir! Overall 3/5 stars for me. #caseboundergayrating

I finished it now. And I thought it was absolutely spectacular. Beautiful and sad and true to real life... There are happy endings.. Eventually.(referring tit he fact that Josh is now happily married years later) Very amazing and probably my favorite book to date. Hysterical and heartbreaking. I finished this in 3 days despite studying for final exams. Read it.

This memoir is the extraordinary and darkly funny love tale of an advertising-by-day-drag-queen-at-night and a paid escort. It's about two misfits, about finding humanity beneath the dysfunction and the outrageous. You will flinch, and expand what it means to love another, to transform and find yourself:

sometimes, down is the only way out. ;

you will be disgusted at one point then crying the next; it will tell you all about a couple trying to deal with the present and the future, to care, to be openhearted and to salvage themselves from the wreckage since holding on to someone is not always the same as keeping them close. .

Hysterical and really funny, don't be surprised when you find boobs full of water with goldfish inside, or the author continually having to figure out the past night's events: “Some people might get obsessed with figuring out how they wound up on the F train in drag, with no bag and only one shoe. But that’s simply not my style. What’s done is done. I’m sure I had my reasons.”

Finally, it's a story about the power of sex and bodies, hunger and excess, love, drinks and drugs, feeling free and being free.
