No one is more shocked than I that this is getting a 5 star rating. I never saw this coming, but I loved this book.

Following the events of Lady Midnight, the Los Angeles institute and it's residents were thrown into turmoil. And with this installment, it only gets worse. Malcolm and the Black Volume are still causing havoc and now there are new people thrown into the mix and more ways for secrets to be exposed.

I absolutely love the Blackthorn children. Their love for one another just shines on every page and it's nice to see such a family dynamic that's positive in YA. Julian breaks my heart as he is constantly weighing what he wants versus what it good for his family. And then there's the love for Emma that he has. This kid literally can't catch a break. But what I liked about this book was how it focused on all of the kids - well, except for Tavvy because baby. I loved getting to know Liv and Ty and watching their relationship with Kit evolve. There are so many relationship dynamics in this book and Clare gives them each room to grow.

However, that ending was HORRIBLE. I literally almost dropped the book. I cannot believe that Clare did that and I'm hoping that something magically changes between this and the next so that everything can just be happy because these kids deserve happy!

With Lord of Shadows, Cassandra Clare definitely has proved to me that The Dark Artifices is her best work yet. It may not be my favorite, because I love The Infernal Devices so much, but it is definitely 100 times better than The Mortal Instruments.
In this installment we find a lot more about Faerie and their politics, which was always one of the most interesting things about the Shadowhunter world. And we also get more perspective from other characters (Kit, Ty, Livvy, Dru and Diana), which was something that I didn't expect but loved.
Another thing that I totally didn't expect was shipping Diana & Gwyn, but I ship them SO much. Speaking of ships, one of my new OTPs is Kit and Ty, if they don't end up together I'm going to be so mad!
Now, finally, let's talk about the ending that completly destroyed me. So many things happen that I didn't see coming, my jaw dropped so many times. But the worst part about it is that we have to wait two years for the finale. TWO YEARS. I mean, I'm still excited about The Last Hours but I don't think I can wait that long for Queen of Air and Darkness.
