Following the events in Dubai, Leda, Watt, Rylin and Avery are all attempting to forget and move on with their lives. However, the police are investigating Mariel's death as they are suspicious it might have been a murder after all. And here the web of deception begins to unravel.
Leda's POVs were my favourite and how she has changed as a character from book 1 is amazing. However, the star of this book, in my opinion, was Avery. The girl genetically engineered to be perfect has realized the downsides of the glamorous society she lives in, and is no longer satisfied with playing along as her world begins to come crashing down around her. Seriously, throughout this book, I just kept waiting for the next bomb to drop and I was not disappointed. Every plot twist was fantastically done. Watt, still living in fear of Nadia being discovered, attends an MIT interview and learns to face some tough truths and makes a big decision. The reveal of Mariel's killer, while not someone I would have guessed at, was not all that surprising in hindsight - and also very logical in a way.
Surprisingly, I rather liked Rylin and Cord's plot line even though it was somewhat of a side story compared to the main events. Calliope, on the other hand, was kind of irritating in this book. Her POVs felt rather detached and her character and problems, more than a little shallow. She doesn't have much interaction with the other four and her plot line was almost separate. I expected a little more from her as a character especially since she knows Avery's secret, I thought she should have had more of a role.
Finally, this book is 4 stars and not 5 just for the fact that I thought the Avery/Atlas plot line was over and done with and yet, there it was again. Also, the ending, while somewhat happy, was not satisfactory in my opinion.
Spoiler I'm not really sure about Avery taking the fall and Leda getting away with everything entirely. Also, Avery making the decision to basically trick her family into thinking she's dead and running off to look for Atlas? I thought that was a really awful thing to do.
Nevertheless, I expected gossipy drama and exciting plot twists from this book and it delivered. A great ending to the trilogy!

Well.. I didn't see that coming.

I f'ing love this series.

I don't watch reality TV so this book is basically my bad TV. I know its rotting my brain, but I'm addicted to it.

It’s still weird that they’re high schoolers, but I understand that high school is a good plot device. The story is pretty good, but the early flaws in the romantic relationships continue to make it hard for me to fully love them.

Book Ending:

The police are looking into Muriels death and change the case to 'murder' and end up pulling Avery, Watt, Leda and Rylin in for questioning. Nadia tells Watt that the police are close to linking the two murders and that it is only a matter of time before they are all caught out.

Avery is back from Oxford with a new, German boyfriend: Max. He is very lovely and wants to live with Avery next year. But Atlas shows up to help her fathers political agenda and confesses he still wants her and wants them to work. They end up kissing at a party and a bot takes a photo of it. Max also sees. The next day it is all over the feeds and when Avery gets home Atlas is gone- her parents have got rid of him.

Rylin is also back, back with her former boyfriend. However they end up breaking up and she later finds out that Cord helped him leave. She's furious and they break up with him but end up getting back together towards the end of the book. Meanwhile Cords brother (Bryce) and Calliope are getting closer and closer. But Calliope has to keep sneaking out to see him after her mothers new husbands forbids it. One day she gets caught and herself and her mother have to confess to husband that they arent who they pretend to be. He looks very hurt and demands they leave. Elise does love him and hopes he will chase after her. He does not so she ends up leaving New York but lets Calliope stay. Calliope meets up with Bryce and confesses he is a big reason she wanted to stay.

Watt and Leda also get close in this book, especially when Leda confesses that she cannot remember anything that happened the night Muriel died- she went to rehab after this. Nadia suggests that Leda may have killed her; Watt proposes this to Leda and she takes it extremely bad.
This leads to her ready to confess to the murders after her guilt gets to her but when she's at the station she finds out Avery has already confessed to both murders, after the scandal comes out about her and Atlas- she gets a lot of public abuse from this. She doesn't understand this and runs to Avery apartment in time to see it alight- Avery has jumped from the 1000th floor and died. Just like Eris.
Leta realises she did this for her- so she could live guilt free.

Watt looks into the death and realises it was Nadia that killed Muriel. He has to get rid of her and does so with Leda by his soon. When she is gone he called a call from NYT (school that he was previously rejected from) asking if he will come back for an interview with them.

The epilogue: a girl, that we don't know, with jet black hair is on the way to Budapest. It is Avery. Watt had helped her disappear before she 'died.'
She leaves her old life behind and goes on a search for Atlas

I rarely cry while reading a book, but I have to admit that this one did me in. That ending...wow. Tears.
