I separate the fun it brings me as a historical piece from the plot of an actual story too much, so I won't rate it. Imo, the mundanity is the main thing it brings to the table, it feels novel after plays and poetry, and it excites me to look at the ancient world like this. The story itself isn't what I would choose in a modern book, but I appreciated the lightness and the happy ending.

This depiction of pastoral Ancient Greece was a perfect light hearted way to indulge in a classical tale. A simple narrative following two beautiful youths as they fall hopelessly and naively in love.
The story is full of soft heart warming descriptions of them as they try to get to grip with their love, and vivid depictions of their rural surroundings.
A lovely quick read, a little too simplistic for a higher score but definitely worth a read.

An enjoyable story that made me keep reading. I would have enjoyed it a bit more if not for the women that took advantage of Daphnis which was immensely off-putting and angering, but overall a sweet story about young love and a couple that sticks together.
