The Binding...what can I say. This book was brilliant. It was really captivating I was a little sad once I'd finished it. It follows the story mainly of Emmett and Lucian and it is written in 3 parts which I really liked. Very well written and a real joy to read. I haven't read a story like it before. Brilliant.

Why the heck is this categorised as a fantasy novel?? I feel tricked. I'd be okay with only one fantastical element, but we learn next to nothing about what the binding actually is, even though it's the frickin' title... I wanted to read about magical books!!
I didn't really enjoy the characters, the pacing was weird and slow and the whole book is like 200 pages too long. Glad I started skimming at some point so I didn't waste even more time on this.

Such an interesting premise! I love the idea that books are memories - as a child I thought all books were real and about parallel universes. This is based in a Victorian period, where all the books are people’s memories.
It’s a beautiful love story and a lot darker than I thought, but I would have liked characters to be a little more fleshed out with quirks and interests. I expected more about the world of binding but it’s very much about the two love interests, which I’m here for!
I went into this book knowing nothing about it or the genre as it was a book club read, but I enjoyed it.

This book had everything. Unexpected twists. Romance. Murder. Secrets. Suicide. Magic. Forbidden love. Loveable, interesting, complex and heartbreaking characters and relationships. Haven’t come across a book like this in a while.
