Really enjoyed this book until the last chapter. Would have been a 4* without it

Very graphic and plenty of swearing, but did make me laugh out loud. Not a book I myself would have bought - got given it as a gift, but it did kick me out of my many year long reading slump. The gore was rather a lot.
Graphic: Violence, Blood, Gore, Injury/Injury detail, Death, Excrement, Gun violence, Vomit, Body horror, and Murder

Not my usual thing (a little too much foul language and general grossness for my taste), but surprisingly I did enjoy it - mainly, I think, because I liked the main characters.

The first in the series of Jack Parlabane novels was an enjoyable read with elements of humour that in parts had me laughing out loud.
The plot in parts was not as well built as some crime novels I've read but the characters were well drawn and having only read book 3 previously has encouraged me to read more.
The opening chapter is so gross that the reader has to take it with I expect the darkly humorous bent it needs to get through it, and of course the politics of the privatization of the NHS seems as relevant today as 20 years ago when written ( I couldn't fail to smile at the three passwords joke especially as ex Tory hatchetmen now grace the tv screens as genial commentators).
Yes an enjoyable read and ill carry on with the series.

Remember when investigative journalism was still a thing? Anyway, this doesn’t waste any time, any words, anything. It’s fast paced, funny in an Irvine Welsh way and incredibly anti-Tory. I liked it but it’s definitely in my wheelhouse.
