3.5 stars - Such a strange and dark book... an interesting end of the world take and the ending was just bizarre. I can't say I really liked any of the characters (except maybe Mott who was far too responsible for a 12 year old) as all of the relationships were very toxic and a little hard to read about. I think it drew me in because I was just really curious on what this take on the end of the world would be.

As far as apocalypse novels go, this could have been a lot more interesting.

Super trippy book, the end really got me.

If you're into psychological insights into the apocalypse books this is an interesting one.

{3.75} The unique vibe of the characters and events in this novel certainly matched the off-kilter feeling created by the plot. Mott is quirky and endearing, and her relationship with Lyd (her mom) is a little off-putting and complex, making me want to keep reading just to figure it out. The apocalypse theme and feel follows the reader throughout the novel, but doesn't envelope the novel—as it's clearly still a story about human relationships and reactions than it is just about the end of the world. I wanted to like this book a lot, as I liked the characters, and thought the various sub-plots were interesting, if not a little weird. But I felt like the middle of the book was a lot of the same. The pace was relatively slow, and even when something did happen, it felt like not much had really changed. A fun novel with lots of potential for deeper meaning turned out to be somewhat anti-climactic, and more open-ended and directionless than I had initially hoped.
