This was an amazing book. A tale about Dantala, a young man who runs away from home and finds himself caught up in a war of religion and politics. Set in Northern Nigeria, Dantala finds himself learning under Moslem religious leaders and finding his own way while at it.

What I love about this book is the wealth of knowledge I derived from reading the well crafted story. As a Nigerian born and raised in the south, i have very little insight into the experience of the average Northern moslem. I must admit that the violence always left me dumbfounded and perplexed with the question, “why are they fighting each other if it’s the same religion?”

This book provides more insight to that puzzle, and I’m glad I read it. I can now empathise with, if not fully understand those issues.

I wonder what the world would have been like without religion...
More peaceful?

Anyway, I highly recommend this book! I’ll get my sister to read it, too.

Let's dig in!

First off, I need to commend how amazing a writer @elnathan.john is. He is such a beautiful writer and his writing is so powerful and you can almost feel every word.

omggggggg. Iloveeeeee this book so much. I did not want to stop reading it. I read it everywhere - lunch break, toilet break, even when I knew I needed to sleep, I made sure it was the last thing I held at night. I enjoyed it almost too much.

Regardless that it focused majorly on the islamic religion, it was very intriguing, was curious to know more. learnt so much from the book, even though I had to google most of the hausa words.

I loved how fast things developed at the beginning of the book.

I love how the author was able to blend everything in the book and how he referenced certain things.

I would have probably titled the book "The Life of Ahmad Dantala" but clearly that's why l'm not an author. This book focused on the life of a boy - Dantala, meaning 'Born on a Tuesday' and it was a very painful life story.

Just when you think thing are getting better, it worsens. Tove when I am able to feel emotions from a book - and in this book, I was able to feel the pain emanating from the book.

Another thing I absolutely enjoyed was how the author wrote in first person, it gave the story credibility and I was able to build a rapport with Ahmad - there was the bond, empathy, maybe that's why I was able to feel the emotions.

Born on a Tuesday is an astounding book and I totally recommend!!!

A compelling read!
I really enjoyed the simple style of writing that was still able to tell such a story.
I was totally engrossed with Danlata's story and how it progressed that I read this in less than twelve hours. It offered me rich insight into the life of a young Muslim northener who is born poor and has to navigate through life amidst difference within his religion and how they relate to him.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone. Easy and fast reading.
