This book reminded me of Pretty Little Liars. The setting, case, characters - everything was so similar to PLL. The only reason why this book feels different than PLL is because of our main characters and since the book is written from the main character, Pip's POV it felt different. It really felt like a A+ student getting too attached to a cold case and bringing all different kinds of trouble that comes with it.
Plot wise, all the typical murder mystery things happens in this book - false leads, alot of messed up people in a small town, death threats etc. But this book shines with the creativity of the writing styles - we had diary entries, interview transcripts, hand drawn diagrams that Pip drew. It was just really fun to read.
Like I mentioned earlier, Pip was the reason why I enjoyed the book as much as I did. I loved her character and nervous rambling quirk haha. I have to talk about Ravi because he was so pure, nice and loyal. His character was everything I didn't think I needed in a character.
The ending of this book was a little disappointing to me. I just hoped that the ending wouldn't be like PLL -
that Andie Bell was actually alive. But the fake Andie really threw me off. I didn't really enjoy that twist. It felt kind of forced to me and like it was just done for the sake of having another plot twist.
But the last reveal - I didn't see coming. That was crazy.
So overall, it was a nice thriller, murder mystery book. It wasn't something ground breaking or different. But it was still an enjoyable read.

This book genuinely broke my brain. The plot twists at the end?? They hit you like a TRUCK. I had CHILLS in the reveal. 10/10 book, I WISH I could re-read it for the first time again.

I can't write a review saying WHY I liked this book, because else I would spoil it.

But I can say I know now why so many people like it.
It's honestly a good YA murder mystery book with such loveable main characters.

I would definitely recommend :)

SPOILERS!
Y’all I cannot! This book is actually so good.
The plot twist was pretty good, considering we thought it was one
murderer who killed Sal and Andie, but it was actually two (kinda). I can’t believe Cara’s dad killed Sal, but in some deranged way it made sense. And Andie’s death? BY HER OWN SISTER? Technically it wasn’t premeditated because her sister was dying and she left her there, but she did hide the body. And to think it hadn’t been found after 5 years, she did a good job.

BUT… there’s one thing I cannot forgive.
BARNEY. WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE? It wasn’t necessary.
My heart was broken.

i want to rate it higher but i can't bc of the 20 year old and 17 year old relationship. idk if things are different in britain (where the author lives) but that's um... yeah no.

This book was very entertaining and had some great twists. I always like when mystery stories sprinkle clues towards the true ending throughout, especially when they aren't obvious, and then when the reveal comes you remember the small details and see that the author did a great job of paving the path forward while you were already walking on it. This happened several times in my read through, and although some of the clues were obvious and stood out to me, the ones that weren't made for a great twist and ending that were satisfying. My biggest criticisms of this book are that the main character is named Pippa despite being American and that she is capable of so much more as a detective than she really should be considering she is a high schooler who has never done this before. After reading, I learned that this book was originally set in the UK as the author is British and that it was changed to America for the US publication, and my only thought was "wtf why?" It really didn't need to be changed in this way and I wouldn't have minded her name being Pippa as much (I still mind a little because I think it's an ugly name) if she was British in the edition I read. Overall it was a fun and entertaining read and I will be tuning in once the TV adaptation drops.

This was a really interesting case of 'who done it' and it was skilfully executed. I was absolutely sucked into trying to figure out what was going on alongside Pip. The ending surprised me and was not what I expected. The characters added levity to a very dark and tense story. All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book.
