Wanted to love it but did not. His next book while ending more sadly was better.

A great memoir for any dog lover. Devon the boarder collie surely is a holy terror.

Being a dog-lover, I can never resist a story about man's best friend. This is a very heart-warming story that while focuses mainly on the clash between wild and calm has some good messages about real friendship and finding yourself. [author: Jon Katz] seemed to put a lot of heart into this story and it shows.

Love collies. I loved the humour of the book but also the story of how we can help damaged dogs overcome their previous treatment and in doing so change ourselves.

I realized a few pages in that I read this book a few years ago, but I plowed through it anyway as if it was my first time reading it. I firmly believe that people, or in this case dogs, come into and out of our lives for a reason. Reading this book this time around was more than just a story about a man and his dogs but a poignant reminder that life throws us curveballs and that we should always follow our heart.

The narrator annoyed me, the dog training techniques as well as how he goes about acquiring his dogs irked me. It's not that I'm against only investing in purebreds - I think there's good reasons for both mutts/shelter dogs and breeders. But this man made a number of mistakes and didn't really apologize for them. As a writer, his characterizations of the people involved in his life were one-dimensional and frustrating. And knowing the truth about what happened to the dog doesn't help his case.

Picked this up at a friend's house on vacation. Light, fast, pleasant read for the dog lover. At times repetitive, but overall a nice romp ;-) if you like this type of book.
