I love the banter and the joy that Tessa brought in her stories. And the story between Sumner and Britta is not an exception.
It is an mariage of connivence between a golden retriever 6 foot 5 hockey player and an independent bartender.
The spice is đŸŒ¶đŸŒ¶đŸŒ¶/5
I laughed heartily many times.
The narrator did a great job!

“Can you not see that I’m starving to death for you?”

When aspiring pro hockey player Sumner needs a quick fix before his work visa expires, his teammates conspire to have him marry his buddies sister, Britta. She has crushed on Sumner since meeting him and is open to the arrangement if he pays her enough to gain co-ownership of the bar she currently works at.

As we see the two grow closer in their marriage of convenience, the sparks each envisioned in the relationship start to develop.

I really enjoyed this quick little audiobook! For being a novella, I thought the friends to lovers was pretty fleshed out and enjoyed Sumner’s family visit for his birthday. They were welcoming Britta to the family with open arms & were supportive of their relationship.

Sumner was a little smitten gem. He was so sweet and reassuring to Britta after learning about her family history. He didn’t pressure her into anything but allowed her to form her own informed decisions.

Britta, understandably so, is guarded and not a relationship girlie due to her father’s abandonment when she was young. She handled her half brother Bryce’s situation with grace and I loved getting snippets of their mended bond.

Overall this was a quick, fun & spicy time from Tessa Bailey. I enjoyed it and think you should definitely give it a try if you’re wanting a good time!

Was this story fully believable? No. Was it a short, fun read? Yes. Sumner is definitely a golden retriever boyfriend but his crush on Britta could crossover into obsessive territory. However, he made it hard not to like him. Britta had a tough exterior and it was sweet seeing her walls come down. I don't know much about hockey, but their marriage of convenience seemed a bit risky given that Sumner had no guarantee of making it to the NHL. Overall, this was a quick, spicy read and a fun romance for Britta and Sumner.

I don't even know why I bother with anything Tessa Bailey writes when her books are clearly not to my taste. The premise of this one seemed cute, so I only have myself to blame for picking it up.

Look, I love explicit sex scenes as much as any other romance enthusiast, but something about Tessa Bailey's imagery and use of language gives me the heebie-jeebies.

The relationship development in this novella is nonexistent, which can't be explained away with the length of the story. The characters are (as usual) almost caricature-like and extremely one-dimensional.

Cute and quick read, pretty good vibes all around. The spice was mostly hot but at some points I thought it was abit cringe but maybe that’s just me?

Hattedddd the MMC’s name I just couldn’t get over it and kept calling him Summer like the season, HOWEVER, that man had me gigglingggg for multiple reasons but mostly because he was a big weirdo
who fell first and harder (which I love)
.He kinda gave ‘Doberman boyfriend’ energy at first and then he’d go and say some outrageous stuff
especially during spicy parts
and I was kinda just like WTF LOL. In my annotations I literally put multiple times “why would he say that the big weirdo” but besides that I did actually like him.

Thought the FMC was a pretty cool and complex character considering it was only 144 pages long I felt like she had a lot of depth.
also liked how she had doubts about buying the bar as her original dream it felt more ‘real’
I think I probably favoured her because I also work in a bar / pub and could relate to her alot.

Only thing I would’ve liked to have seen more is the FMCs brother / friends it would’ve been interesting to explore the teams dynamic and stuff but I understand there’s only so much you can say in a novella.

- loved the fact that the main male character would do anything for the female
- definitely a must read for people who like steamy romance
- since it was less than 200 pages, there wasn’t too much of a connection to the characters
