i loved this book. it’s one of the truest and most relatable (to me anyway) things i’ve ever read about rape and the aftermath, especially becca’s thoughts. there’s no right way to be a rape victim but no other book just seemed to mirror my thoughts and my experiences the way this book happened to do.
becca struggling to come to terms with what happened, becca blaming herself for the clothes she’d worn, becca being so selfless despite what happened, i think a lot of people see this happen and hear about it in terms of survivors but the way it’d been written really just made me feel like someone else understood yk
like sure becca’s fictional but it just made me feel so validated seeing her go through the same struggle i had.

i give this book 5 stars mostly based on its portrayl of the aftermath and becca’s thoughts on her being raped and mostly surrounding her struggle and her finally healing. however i’m tempted to rate this book a 4.75 because of the things below

there are just some things which i wish had been done differently.
i wish ryan had grovelled more, like he’d fucked with her so badly when she had already been in such a fragile mental state, and sure he hadn’t known that becca had been raped but i think there were just some pointers that something had happened that he just chose not to see. i feel like this could’ve been achieved had there not been a whole 4 year time jump between the books events and the epilogue. like just somethings inbetween would’ve really shown a lot and would’ve redeemed himself to me (but i doubt any amount of grovelling could’ve truly redeemed him for me)
i also just wish she wasn’t so reliant on him.
like the fact she only truly started to heal after he’d realized what had happened, the way only after they’d hugged did she start to feel better? i just wish she’d started to heal on her own a bit more and shown that she could’ve healed without him more yk. like she had started to heal but it was nothing compared to when he’d returned
