I had the 'who' figured out pretty early on, but the 'why' was a complete shocker!
Layla is a pop superstar, who seems to have it all. A few letters too many from an obsessed fan, and her mother calls Brady to offer his investigation firm an opportunity to figure out who they are dealing with. Brady absolutely does not want to take the job, but the strain of taking care of his sister, and niece forces him to accept. Brady realizes pretty quickly that the media Layla, and the real Layla are two different people. He was hired to find the weirdo sending her crazy letters, but he plans on looking more into the strange situation that is Layla's life.

***Spoilers***
Layla's mother, Eve, is a royal bitch! She never wanted kids, and her father pretty much bribed her into keeping Layla. The two of them were as close as two people could be, and Layla dreamed of the day her father finally left her mother. Soon after announcing his plans, he was killed in a car wreck. Layla's mother took over her husbands recording company, and forced Layla to become a star. Her father always wanted her to take her time, knowing the strain of being in the business for young people. Eve had no problem forcing her daughter into the business, deciding exactly what, when and where she would play. Anytime Layla attempted to break free, Eve would show Layla how quickly, and absolutely she would destroy the life of her best friend Finn, who is also her bodyguard. Eve hires Brady to investigate the letters, because he is known as a drunk after his time in the Dominican, and as a police officer. She doesn't expect him to dig too deep, or cause any problems. In the end it's revealed that Eve hired a man to puncture the brake line of her husbands car, so that he couldn't leave her with nothing. She made Layla sign documentation giving Eve full access, and control the day her father was buried. Also, Finn was Eve's son, whom she gave up for adoption before marrying Layla's father. He found out after learning that both he, and Layla have the same rare blood disease. He has been jealous of Layla's success since finding out, and cooked up this scheme to get himself noticed for saving her. Finn involves one of Eve's exes in the scheme, the same guy she used to tamper with her deceased husbands car. He decides he wants to do more than just scare Layla, and kidnaps her. Brady finds her, and the two of them finally confess their feelings, and live happily ever after.

Yesss please

Layla is your typical pop star, or so you think, and Brady is far from your standard body guard.

But what transpires in this fun filled thriller is more than I could have bargained for.
I normally cringe at the sex scenes, but Tara makes them so real and genuine that disgust is not what you'll feel ;)

I loved everything about this story, even though the "bad guy" is pretty predictable. The only reason this book gets 4 instead of 5 stars is the errors I found.

This series is incredible. I seriously fell in love with the first and was worried the second wouldn't be as good but damn was I wrong. This book was amazing. It had me breathless the entire way through, in more ways than one. Tara Sivec is a fantastic story teller. She tangles you up in a web of mystery that has you second guessing everything and you still don't see what's coming until it hits you and has you sobbing like a baby. And those love scenes, holy crap...I need dousing with a bucket of ice after that!

Going to continue with what I'm hoping is Austin and Gwen's story next!!

I really like Sivec. She is a breath of fresh air in all the craziness that is the New Adult genre. Not sure this novel falls into that category but I am glad she finishes each story in the same book.

I highly recommend this series and can't wait for the next.

When I saw that there was going to be a second book:

I completely adored the first book. Garrett and Parker are just too hot together, seriously. While I really love this book, I think I love Garrett & Parker's story a bit more, mainly because both Garrett and Parker kick asses (literally), while in this book we get to see the handsome and sensitive Brady Marshall protects pop princess Layla Carlysle. And as much as I feel Layla Carlysle is an equally strong woman, I just miss the whole CIA kick-butt thing Parker has, you know? Hence the 4.5 stars.

Going to need that third book now, Miss Sivec, because AUSTIN.

It always amazes me when we have the female and male POV in the book..and in this case,it wasn't anything but outstanding....
I have to say that the last pages had me hanging with every word and Brady's tendecy over to melodramatic and idiocy weren't calming me at all but his sister fixed him...
Another thing about this book that I found extraordinary is that all the characters involved, the leads, the villains,Brady's sister all of them, grew up along with the book itself. New situations came up and they just rolled with it..Everyone just showed such strength that makes the reader re-evaluate his/her life and the choices he/she made...
It was as romantic as inspiring and libearating..I really really loved it!!

Another amazing book in the Playing with Fire Series!! I love that the characters we met in the first book are connected but have their own unique stories.
