What a funny and amazing book!
I had no idea Chris Colfer was a writer too.
The ending was not expected for me and I liked it a lot.
Since I read this book, I convinced a few people to read it and I haven't heard any complains.
This is seriously an amazing book.

Bonus: The movie is pretty good too, except that they reveal the ending of the book at the beginning of the book, so don't watch the movie first!!

When Carson Phillips learns he needs to beef-up his college application, he exploits his classmates and their secrets to get them to contribute to a literary magazine he organizes.

Plain and simple: huge fan of Chris Colfer on Glee but not a huge fan of this book. Will probably borrow the DVD to watch his theatrical take on the book. And this book will make it on my "Bullying" book list at work but it is not a favorite - and I really wanted to like it because of Colfer!

This book was actually terrible. Like honestly I could barely finish it and I found it to be tasteless and pointless.

A kid in high school walks around acting like the biggest asshole ever. He hates everyone finds everyone to be beneath him and all of it was just painful to read because of how bad it was written. The narration was terrible, the main guy was someone that you couldn't sympathize with, understand, care about , or even tolerate. The more I read the less I wanted to continue it was written like a bad indie film which is funny because apparently it is an indie film. This should have been just a movie. Or maybe not even that I don't know haven't seen the movie if it's anything like the book good luck caring.

It's funny and Colfer's sense of humor is his main forte. On the other hand, there are lot of cons: unrealistic plot, annoying protagonist, obvious main idea, broken motivation, unfinished storylines.

Until the very end, I thought it would get 3 stars from me and I would write something like "Nice book, made me smile, but really nothing special".
Unfortunately, ending completely ruined everything – it's awful.

I loved this as a movie, and I hated this as a book. Carson was a complete asshole and I had basically 0 empathy for him. I was so non-invested with this story, which is sad because I loved the movie. Also, the character Malerie works only when Rebel Wilson is playing her, not in print as a new character for us to get used to. It really felt like Chris Colfer just transcribed the entire movie into this book which was just blah for me. Avoid this book if you like good reading material

I wanted to love this book, I really did. I loved the main character, he's so snarky and sarcastic and a bit of a jerk but I couldn't help but love him. The concept was entertaining but unfortunately, I feel like it was quite rushed and didn't feel like the book had as much content as it could have. It felt more like the skeleton of a story in a way. It flew by so quickly, and I like a quick read, but I feel like this could've been made into something fuller. And that ending left me with mixed feelings. I've become more okay with it than I was immediately after reading it but it still made me feel disappointed which I don't think was the goal. It made me feel a bit defeated in a way as opposed to something with a heartbreaking ending that still seemed like it was right or at least properly executed. I still enjoyed it and by no means regret reading it but I don't know if I would immediately recommend it. If there were a part I would praise, it would definitely be the main character. I found myself laughing along to how he perceived the world around him and I loved witnessing his drive and ambition. The main character is what really made the book work.

Watched the movie first, I enjoyed watching what Carson saw first and then seeing what really was going on but with the dvd out with the deleted scenes it doesn't really matter. The format was a really easy read but it has so many words that are well said that I can't let go of. The lessons Carson doesn't teach you but tells you about are enough to get you through more than high school.

I've been in a state of perpetual grief since Glee ended in March 2015, reading this book was supposed to help mend my broken heart and while it didn’t exactly heal me I did enjoy the reading experience.

I love Chris Colfer with all my heart so maybe I'm biased but I thought this book was great. It’s an entertaining, fast read that has a good balance of humour and depth. The main character, Carson Phillips, isn’t exactly a good person, but he’s relatable and brutally honest in a way that makes him captivating. Carson is determined to make something of himself and will do anything to get out of the small town he lives in, including but not limited to blackmailing a good chunk of his classmates. The struggle of an aspiring writer paired with a plot centred around blackmailing is right up my alley and while the book isn’t a literary masterpiece I enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend reading this one, even if it didn’t cure my post glee blues.

I laughed out loud many times. This is a quick, fast-paced, hilarious read with a lot of deep insight. The movie is just as amazing!
