I overall enjoyed this, but towards the end I did get a bit tired of the "will they wont they" dramatic plot twists. If the story had been condensed with only one or two of these conflicts, it would have felt better rather than escalating to the point of disbelief. There is also a portion that deals with mental illness that is not in any way realistic, even for the time period. And of course interspersed throughout it are moments of racism, just to be able to say "hey, I can do/say that, because it's historically accurate!" that was absolutely unnecessary especially considering the lack of accuracy and believability in like every other aspect. But hey, I'm a sucker for pining Victorian gays and I finished it, so there's that. If this is a trope you enjoy in fan fiction, you'll probably enjoy this book as it feels like a very well written fan fiction of someone's OTP.
