Thanks to the Kid Lit Exchange for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

I just think the VANDERBEEKERS series is full of some of the best middle grade writing out there right now. These books give me all the feels. They are full of friendship, family, and community. What I love most is that they are full of wholesome adventure. Pure fun in every book.

In this third installment, the VANDERBEEKERS TO THE RESCUE, the children try to help their mom achieve her dream of opening a cookie cafe. But every time they try to help, something goes wrong. Their problems are compounded when animals keep mysteriously appearing on their doorstep. Turns out the city inspector does not look kindly on a kitchen full of animals. Not to worry! The Vanderbeekers have a plan, and as usual, they have a Harlem neighborhood full of people willing to step in and help.

I would happily recommend this book, and the entire series, to families looking for fun, feel-good stories featuring loads of creativity and independence. If only we could all grow up on 141st Street!

This is a charming series about a close set of siblings trying to figure their way out of trouble set in New York City. The City is a character here as readers can invision everywhere the siblings go. The parents are refreshingly both present and in the background, allowing the children to figure many issues out on their own. Nothing ever turns out quite how they imagined it, but the problems are solved by the end. This instalment takes place during spring break. Again, we really enjoyed it. Can't wait to read #4 so we're ready for the new one coming out.

Picking this series back up where I left off and its still as cute as ever. This one was full of the usual antics of the Vanderbeeker children and I loved seeing what they got up to once again.

The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue was just as heartwarming and fun as the previous two books! The cast of characters (human and animal) are all so loveable - a "hodgepodge of community, connected not by blood but by an abundance of love" - and their stories remind me that anyone can bring joy and good into the world.
