EDIT: Lowering my rating due to shenanigans from the author and her husband, and because I've done some rethinking about Zade and the rape hypocrisy.

The Cat and Mouse Duet is a masterpiece.

I don't use that word lightly. I'm a harsh reviewer, and I nitpick and critique and agonize over ratings like it actually might mean something (ha). But this book series was honestly life changing in a very dramatic way, and Zade? ZADE? Now that's a MMC to ruin all others. It is an improvement on the first book, with better writing and prose, and my god did I fall in love with each and every character.

I'm not going to lie, the first 300 pages of this book are BRUTAL. For my mental health I had to skim and skip. I sobbed, I even almost threw up. This book does not let off easy. It WILL get under your skin and probably trigger you. I almost DNF'd so many times and had to put down the book and take it pages at a time. But the pay off? The divine justice when our FMC makes those who hurt her pay? It's worth it. So stick with it, and go slow.

There are some books that just change you, and this duet did that.

This books is indeed about hunting Adeline. After the cliff hanger from the first book, I could not read through this book fast enough. It takes a long time for Zade and Adeline to reunite, but it is all worth it.

Adeline, as a fictional character, had a MASSIVE character development, which we love to see in books. She goes from being the manipulator to being the diamond. And Zade becomes the hunter - literally as he is also described at the chapters that have his POV.

In my opinion, this book was even harder to read than the first one, due to all the triggers. Let's just say that H.D. Carlton did not skip or shy away from details during the gruesome and hard to read scenes.

This book is worth the hype 100%, but make sure you can process all the triggers being thrown in your face before proceeding to read this book.
