I'll keep this short, because this book was short and to be honest I don't know how to fell about it.

I enjoyed reading this, it was entertaining and exciting, but at the same time I couldn't shake the felling this book had a weird and dark heavy vibe.

Dialogues and characters in this book are odd, they are teenagers that speak like teenagers with a special rawness to otherwise normal dialogues. It was different, I don't have other words to describe it.

The mystery was good, not something too crazy but at the same time not predictable.

Definitely a book different to what I normally read, but despite not knowing what to feel about this at all, I still want to read more from Mariko. I want to explore what else she writes, I may get use to it, and it looks really interesting.

This might be a me thing as I don't really like mysteries or finding out about the crime stuff but it just wasn't for me. I liked the queer characters and thought the idea of Todd hanging around as a ghost and seeing the investigation unfold was really cool but with the switching POV's and the mystery plot it just didn't win me over. I can see a lot of people loving this though.

Also had some really good points about stereotyping gay male characters in really homophobic ways. The whole teacher storyline was super interesting. I think I might have liked this more if we followed Todd leading up to his death instead of looking back.

but why? what was the point of this book? what does it add to the world?

description

This book was just like every other mystery I've ever read. Except the characters were impossible to connect with and the plot had pretty low stakes, and every character cussed every other sentence.

The characters were dry, the plot was predictable. The writing was not good.

It was short though! I'll give it that!
