Ich habe 2021 angefangen dieses Buch zu lesen und hatte mich nach ein paar Kapiteln dafür entschieden, dass ich es unglaublich schlecht finde und ich dieses Buch nicht fertig lesen werde. Jetzt haben wir 2024 und ich habe das Buch innerhalb von drei Tagen fertig gelesen und mich doch entschieden ihm 4 Sterne zu verleihen. Wie kam es dazu?
Zunächst lässt sich sagen, dass mich direkt zu Beginn die ungewohnte Formatierung und Rechtschreibung abgeschreckt hat. Bei der wörtlichen Rede werden die Anführungszeichen weggelassen, stattdessen Unmengen an Zeilenumbrüchen an untypischen Stellen. Auch wenn ich schon damals glaubte, dass es sich um ein stilistisches Mittel handelt, war es keines, welches mir auf Anhieb gefiel und auch zum Ende hin habe ich es nicht lieb gewonnen, sondern mich lediglich daran gewöhnt. Die Charaktere waren für mich zu Beginn nicht wirklich greifbar und ich gab einfach zu früh auf.
Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich den Entschluss gefasst, meine nie fertig gelesenen Bücher zu Ende zu lesen, sodass ich das Buch das erste Mal seit Jahren wieder in die Hand nahm. Mit Widerwillen ist mir die Geschichte Seite für Seite immer mehr ans Herz gewachsen. Irgendwie sind die Charaktere einfach unglaublich faszinierend. Bei "Normale Menschen" von Sally Rooney handelt es sich einfach, um ein Buch, welches dafür gemacht ist es zu analysieren und mehrfach zu lesen. Dies ist eine dieser Geschichten, über die man im Nachhinein wirklich Nachdenken will. Rooney erzählt irgendwie auf eine sehr natürliche und trockene Weise, die mich in manchen Situationen vom Geschehen distanziert hat, in anderen wiederum aber für einen starken Realismus gesorgt hat. Die Gespräche zwischen den zwei Hauptcharakteren wirken so echt. Es würde mich nicht wundern, wenn alles, wie im Buch beschrieben, zumindest in einer Parallelwelt, genau so stattgefunden hätte. Insgesamt fühlt sich das Buch wie ein sehr vollkommenes Werk an und auf den letzten paar Seiten hatte ich dieses Gefühl, es hätte nicht anders kommen können. Um so länger ich darüber nachdenke, um so besser finde ich das Buch.
Ich würde das Buch Personen weiterempfehlen, die Geschichten mit einem starken Fokus auf die Charaktere in ihnen mögen.

This story began as a wonderful and youthful tale of forbidden love, but morphed into a hyper-realistic reflection of life. This is not the book if you are hoping for a happy ending or tragic romance. It's somehow perfectly balanced in-between.
