Good kids book, looking forward to reading it aloud with my kids. Not amazing, and not itching to read the next one, but enjoyable with some sharp humor.

What a likeable character. Evil genius Artemis is well motivated (not justly motivated, but well motivated) and the way his backstory is brought in makes him likeable. This battle of wits is so mich fun, partly due to a little physical humor. Charming.

More like a 3.5. I probably would have loved this had I read it as it was coming out.

For years, I've been eyeing this series. My school was never really into Artemis Fowl, but I remember other kids at the local library going insane over it. The book was never available since so many kids read it, so it kind of just fell off my radar. As an adult, I've been having fun trying to find all of the books I wanted to read as a kid but never managed to. And I have to say, this one might have been a better read for me as a middle schooler

I have a friend who still loves this book as an adult. They swear it's one of the best books ever written and overhyped it to me. Now, I know how overhyping works so I went in basically knowing that this book is beloved and that it should be a fun read. But... it didn't work for me that well, if I'm being honest. It's a super cool concept but it's definitely for middle graders. My adult self didn't well with Artemis, but that's okay. That's kind of how these books work.

Child, genius billionaire - aka essentially Bruce Wayne, has discovered fairies and has decided to exploit them. Honestly, super fun concept! It's a weird and delightful idea. And then you have LEPrecon, which is an even funnier idea, out to stop him. I loved all of these ideas but the writing style didn't work for me. I felt like I was missing the point or missing something big that everyone else loved. I just feel like it could have all been executed a bit better to be enjoyable or adults too... But I doubt the author was trying to appeal to adults when he wrote it.

So, overall, it was okay. Not my favourite book, but I did it! I finally grabbed a copy. I might continue with the series, we'll see.

Two out of five stars.
