Strange and Wonderful

I Loved this book.

There are countless stories in which the hero travels to another world on a quest to defeat ultimate evil. This one is somehow different, recalling the sense of wonder I felt as a child reading books like "A Wrinkle In Time" for the first time.

This didn't feel like a kids' book to me, but there's nothing in it unsuitable for a teenage to read, I'll certainly be sharing it with mine.

Very highly recommended!

Coyote is a morbidly obese man with burns on his face, trapped in a world of verbal and physical abuse. He works a dead end job to support his sister and drug addicted mother.
When the father he thought was dead arrives requesting Coyote join him on a mission to save another world, Coyote must face his deepest fears.
I’m not the biggest fantasy fan and tend to compare most world building novels to Lord of the Rings. Coyote Ate the Stars throws a lot at you when the story moves from earth to Adumbrate. There is a quest, the group do get separated at times and face many foes. My “not a fantasy fan” side kept reading the adventure because I was pulled in wanting to know how Coyote and his sister Hazel would cope with their strange new surroundings.

Readers who enjoy fantasy quests might enjoy this read. I struggled to keep up with all of the new characters introduced on Adumbrate and with a lack of caring about the world they were tasked to save.

This is a quick read but not my cuppa.
