Really enjoyed this one. Kinda felt like the Hunger Games in some aspects (I know, two completely different things), but Yona really reminds of Katniss.
Trigger Warnings: kidnapping, eugenics, antisemitism, birth, death, murder, gun violence, and war themes

114 pages in and it is just outdoorsy survival guide type of stuff. Tons the character is boring as well

I liked this book, but there was just something about it that won't allow me to bump it to 4 stars. I don't know if it's the "magic" undertones, the last altercation at the end of the book, or what. That said, I did really enjoy this.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated

Heartbreaking but somehow still hopeful read. Yona, , raised in the forests of Poland, finds her skills of survival very much in demand as she helps groups of Jewish refugees escape the Germans and survive in the depths of the forest. Each of the refugees has suffered extreme trauma and loss and more loss finds the group along the way but somehow they come together to help each other survive.

Similar story to Defiance. Yona is likable. Wanted to keep reading.
