Fun quick read, not as great as PS I love you. What if your child had an imaginary friend and you could see them and you fell in love with him. Very different for a romance/chick lit.

Wow.
This book made me cry, laugh, giggle... And I also got frustrated at Elizabeth with her lack of motherly feelings.
It starts with Ivan's point of view. It seemed very strange.
Everything is explained eventually. It's worth the confusion!!!!!
It took my breath away!

This was a good book, but the "imaginary friend" thing was a bit difficult to get into sometimes. Also, the main character wasn't my favorite person...she got on my nerves most of the time!

I read this book every few years and I find something new every time I do. And I cry every time as well.
Now I'm a very pragmatic, practical reader but I love fantasy. But when I read contemporary, modern, everyday fiction, I don't like it to leave those lines.
This however is my one exception.
Elizabeth, the MC, is a woman with a painful history and a type A personality in a small Irish town. She had a 6 year old nephew, Luke, who she can't really connect with.
And then Ivan comes along - AN IMAGINERY FRIEND. Grown up but invisible, similar to the guardian angel character type.
At first, only Luke can see can see Ivan which pisses off practical Elizabeth no end. But in a moment of feeling truly alone and desperately wanting a friend, Elizabeth can then see Ivan for herself. But doesn't know that he's an imaginary friend and creates all.of these excuses in her mind to
A beautiful and genuine love story blossoms between them - full of emotion and character development on both sides.
This isn't just romance story that requires you to suspend belief momentarily. It's about the pain of feeling lonely, despite being surrounded by people, the pain of losing people you love but finding new dreams in the light of that pain.
My only criticism of this both is the weird Americanisms, from local characters - 'Mom' is such a pet hate for me.
