So much better than the first novel! This one sucked me in so that I couldn't put it down until I was done. I can't wait to find out what happens with Merry's new powers and her harem of men. :)

The book just didn't capture me the way the first one did. I remembered really liking Laurell K. Hamilton's work when I was in my teens, but now that I'm older, it just doesn't do it for me. I'm not invested in the characters or the (very) loose plot.

Re reading this now, I'm even more impressed. LKH was really writing about a lot of the hot trends now before they took off.

In this installment, the tension between the mortal and faerie realms escalates, deepening Meredith's entanglements with political intrigue and personal relationships. The balance between sensual scenes and plot development remains, creating a rich and immersive narrative.

After I took the recommendation of my little sister and tore through the Anita Blake books available and headed to the Library and grabbed the Merry Gentry books as well ...  I grabbed the first few books, hoping I would like them like I did with the Anita books.  Not really a Surprise; I LOVED THEM!  I tore through them in a few weeks and then read them as they became available until I finished them ALL!

Grab them they are great!

Wonderful book! I love the expansion of the story world. The involvement of the Seelie Court was an awesome expansion to the series. I listen to them while at work& it’s lovely to have the distraction while driving from place to place. Definitely a great read (or listen lol)
