incisive and funny whilst being hugely compassionate. This whole collection was a treat!

Her wit. Her personality. So many quotes to remember!

Perhaps it's not for everyone. Some stories tell absolutely nothing special. Two people fighting, two people chatting. Her sense of detail, of rhythm, make it special.

This complete collection of Parker's work include: her poems, her short stories, and her play and book reviews. So it is to say, there are material for you to judge Parker's work depending on your own tastes. Don't underestimate her.

10 years ago, I've discovered her, today, I've fallen in love all over again.

I give this 2.5 based on the heavy hit or miss quality of the content in this book.
I am unsure of how I feel about Parker's writing because some of her short stories I like, some I understood but didn't like (totally my dislike for jealous neurotic characters) and others I glazed through and felt nothing. The same can be said for her poetry. However there were a handful that I photographed because I really connected with them. So I know that she is a good writer.
The reviews in the last part of the book were mainly a slog with the occasional wit and insightful sentence. But the reviews from her later life (Esquire) were much easier to get through. So maybe it was her writing or the writing style of the time. I don't know. But I tried and gave her work a big long 600 page chance and I doubt I'll return to her.
A little disappointed in her supposed wit. But it's probably just me.

I don't like to read this book cover to cover because that's not the way it's supposed to. I like to read a couple of stories, let it rest and pick it again.

It's dry, and sour, and bitter, and delicious.
