Another book I don't quite know where to put. There are parts of the plot I thoroughly enjoyed, there are characters I loved (Nina, Jesper and Wylan, and I will die on this hill, no matter how much my buddy read disagrees). There are other parts of the plot which felt a little silly to me, especially towards the end.

I am no fan of overly dreadful background stories in fantasy novels, this book has plenty of that. I am also no fan of all too graphic descriptions of violence, and of books treating the lives of enemy forces as disposable (no need to kill that many guards). But then again, the worldbuilding felt good, refreshingly unique, the descriptions of Fjerda immersive (although the Fjerdan treatment of Grisha is a bit holocaust-coded, I think, and I am really unsure if I consider a fantasy book the right place to deal with this topic) and the language nerd inside me is especially enamored with every sentence of Fjerdan language we got to see. Well, well. Let's see how part 2, or, dare I say, the second half of this unfinished story, turns out.

Oli liian monimutkaista sanoa, että onko hahmot rakastettavia tai onko niiden viat kirjan keskiössä, koska nyt tuntui siltä, että oli onnistuttu tosi hienosti kirjottamaan monipuolisia hahmoja, jotka ei ollut mitenkään yksiselitteisen mustavalkoisia. Tykkäsin myös siitä, että kaikkia kortteja ei läväytetty pöytään heti alkuun vaan salaisuuksia paljastettiin muille hahmoille ja lukijalle samaan aikaan aina tarinaa edistäen ja niin, että se kävi järkeen. Mitään ei salailtu vaan salailemisen ilosta ja siks, että se olis mielenkiintosta. 

Hyvin harvoin sanon näin, mutta tästä kirjasta tulis ihan sairaan hyvä heist-leffa. 

Pieni miinus loppua kohden nousi mieleen, sisältää lieviä spoilereita:

Loppua kohden alkoi pelottamaan, että yks naishahmoista typistyy jälleen vaan yhen päähenkilön love-interestiks ja omat haaveet (jotka oli just muutama luku sitten asetettu aika isoin elkein) jää sitten rakkauden jälkeen unholaan.

Mutta tää jäi avoimeksi ja ratkennee seuraavassa osassa.

This is my second time reading this book. 🙃 I only first read it a few months ago, but I’ve been missing the characters. 🥹

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! 😍 All of the characters are so amazing and perfect and I wish they were real and that I could be friends with them. 🥰 KAZ AND INEJ ARE SO AHHHHHHHHHH! 🤩 (That was a scream) 😘 I also love the found family in this book. 🥹

The

whole ice court

plot got a bit confusing for me near the end, so I was just there for the vibes. 🙃 Which were amazing of course! 😌 I loved learning about the character’s back stories, especially Kaz’s. 🥺 There are so many plot twist and even when I think I know what’s going to happen… BAM! 💥 Plot twist. 😱

Anyway, if you couldn’t already tell, I absolutely love this book and the universe. 🥰 My rating is 4.5 ⭐️!
