Trimmer has a knack for writing books that are simple enough for the littles to understand, yet delve into some deep topics that are important for kids' development. Taking a playful approach with 3 dog characters, adorably illustrated by Curato in a style very different from his Little Elliot books, to challenge assumptions and delve into identity, this book will open discussions about stereotypes and families through an inclusive lens to encourage conversations with young people about binaries. Books like this are valuable in opening up these types of conversations, as the author states in the Tips for Caregivers at the end, because "These early discussions weave the fabric of inclusivity, acceptance, and mutual respect for others." With the Tips for Caregivers + Conversation Starters from a child psychologist, this picture book provides a cute story & also a non-intimidating way to open up age-relevant & age-appropriate conversations to help kids think about how they perceive themselves and others.
