There’s Someone Inside Your House
⭐️⭐️⭐️-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Makani Young has been sent to live with her grandmother after an incident back home, under the guise she’s supposed to be looking after her grandmother because her mental state may be declined. Makani is starting to believe this when her grandmother keeps accusing her of leaving the cabinets and drawers open even though she swears up and down she didn’t. But when students at her school keep getting murdered in some messed up ways Makani is starting to believe maybe there’s someone inside her house…
Im torn between giving this book 3 stars or 4 stars so this review is going to look a little different.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ -the beginning of the book:
This was one of those books that I’m glad I didn’t give into my initial thoughts and give up on. The book is a little slow to open in my opinion and seems very young to begin with but after giving it time Stephanie Perkins was able to bring it all together into a suspenseful book
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -the middle of the book:
Holy cow. Where do I even begin?! This part of the book made me nervous and every little sound made me jump. Fair warning do not read this when you are home alone. Perkins can write a murder and does an excellent job making you feel what the characters are feeling.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ -the ending
If I could give this zero stars for the emotional trama it caused me reading the ending I would, but that's not fair because it really was a decent ending to the story... except for the fact that it just ended. I'm talking having to flip the page a few times because I thought I was missing some, ended. It definitely could have used a few more chapters of follow up to fully round out the book but it was still very well written
Lastly a few overall things about the book.
Personally it feels very young. There are times I felt like I was reading a younger YA book with how the romance was written in but then at the same time some of the murder descriptions deserved a trigger warning. My last little knock on it is that the author spent a decent amount of time alluding to a past event with the main character but once it came time to expose this event it felt very rushed and not really planned out.
Overall this was a great quick read, with lots of suspenseful moments. I will definitely be adding more Stephen Perkins books to my library.

Audiobook, 3.5 stars rounded up.
The author did a good job building suspense. Some events seemed very unrealistic (running a scary corn maze while a serial killer is super active, for example). I kept waiting for a twist ending that never happened, which was rather disappointing.
