With lyrical language and a unique focus on the "gravity tree" that sparked Sir Isaac Newton's discovery, Anna Crowley Redding shows how one moment and one discovery can create lasting impacts and prompt further scientific discoveries. Recommended for STEM concepts and a sense of scientific history, this would be a fantastic mentor text for student writers, in terms of point-of-view and active verbs.

Okay, new bucket list item! Did you know that the tree that inspired Isaac Newton's work on gravity IS STILL STANDING and you can visit it? This fascinating picture book has information about Isaac Newton (mostly in the back matter), but it focuses on the actual tree near Newton's childhood home that inspired his work. Visited by many amazing scientists over the years, it's also been cultivated so that trees grown from its seeds and cuttings could be planted all over the world. Not only is this an interesting true science story, but the book presents the message that something as tiny as an apple seed can grow to make a huge difference in the world.

We have all heard about The apple tree Isaac Newton was sitting beneath when he discovered gravity, but few of us know much about the tree. Anna Redding’s book profiles the tree from seedling to inspiration to its death in a thunderstorm centuries later. What’s really amazing is how the tree inspired so many others including Einstein and Hawking. Truly amazing and inspiring.
