I adored this book, it was a great hickey romance with relatable characters that had their own shit going on and honestly I can’t believe I waiting so long to read it especially since it has all my favorite tropes a hockey romance, sunshine boy grumpy girl, dislike to benefits, and she’s got trauma so he helps her get thru her sex list. And the spice 🥵

Spicy read - some of it was not for me
the tampon
and I think it did drag on a bit but it was a cute read. Always a fan of co-parenting a stray animal. Was not expecting Cooper to be such a good boyfriend but he really was cute.

4.5

Cooper, the college hockey player who's never had a serious relationship, and Penny, whose only serious boyfriend betrayed her. Hook-up and then they try to work on Penny's sexual to-do list to deal with her past trauma. But as they work through the list, they both start to catch serious feelings for one another.
This book was quite steamy! Just the way I like romance, but also dealt with past trauma and mental health. It was a great balance of serious, funny, and spicy! Though a bit on the sad side at times for a college romance.
    Overall, an excellent book.

Both narrators did an amazing job.

After finishing the first Beyond the Players series book, I could not wait to read Cooper's story. And just like First Down, this book did not disappoint me. The depth of emotion in this book was fantastic. Penny and Cooper's story drew me in and held me tight throughout the book. Grace Reilly is an amazing author. I genuinely enjoy her writing style and the honesty that she brings to her characters. As I read the book, I became so absorbed in the story. Even the spicy scenes were well-written and realistic. The chemistry between Penny and Cooper was off-the-charts hot! I couldn't get enough of them!! I appreciated the open dialogue between Cooper and Penny about her "list" and desires. And boy, oh boy, could that man talk dirty! Whew!! Cooper is definitely at the top of my book-boyfriend list!

Their love story was an emotional rollercoaster that touched on intense issues, but Grace beautifully handled it. Penny's journey towards reclaiming herself was incredibly inspiring, and I couldn't help but root for her every step of the way. It was heartwarming to see Cooper and Penny navigate her past trauma and their family issues while also trying to find their footing in college life together. I loved their story!

I did a hybrid read/listen, and it was awesome! The narrators, Brian Meslar and Faith Clark were perfect in bringing Cooper and Penny's story to life. The dual narration was well done and added to the overall experience. I highly recommend it!

This one had a rocky start for me. I really thought Cooper was a bit of a douche for the first half of the book. Bro… why are you so damn cocky?! But, by the end I was like “lock him down, girlllll” so who knows.

The “list” aspect of this one was different and I did enjoy that. Especially the farther down the list we got… 🥵

The way the dialogue was written for spicy scenes wasn’t my favorite… something about it felt a little off, not necessarily the word choices but the overuse maybe? But the spice was good otherwise. This book is definitely more about s*x than romance but hey, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

And the character development and growth was REAL good. Definitely not mad about where we ended up with Cooper and Penny.

And that hug from the coach when he was sad? Ugh, my heart!

If I could rate it only on the last half, it’d be a solid 4.5 stars but the first half is closer to 3.5 so guess what? We’re going in the middle!

Tropes:
Coaches Daughter
Hockey Romance

Spice: 3.5 🌶️
