Going into this book I was really excited because from the first two books, I really loved this character from book one. And although it started off, really exciting for the first time in this series, I felt like this book was a little too rushed. I definitely wanted more of a build up between the two love interest we got to the juicy stuff.

This book series is not groundbreaking in anyway, however, it is so easily consumable and such a fun read that it’s perfect for when you want to read and be entertained but you don’t want something really thought-provoking. You just wanna have a good time. And I still had that with this book. I will be continuing with this series, but I think I will take a break for a little bit before I go onto the next book.

This is probably my favorite story so far. I love the differences between Kira and Aehako, and how they chose to love each other without the whole resonance/fated-mates. (03/2024)

4 out of 5 stars.

Barbarian Lover is another fun, quick read, with plenty of spice and a great pairing. Some of the challenging narrative aspects—especially action—are rushed and awkward, which did diminish the overall quality of the writing and story. However, the romance in this one is especially sweet: it was less fated mates and more friends to lovers, which I absolutely vibe with. I enjoyed seeing Kira and Aehako’s relationship blossom, with them choosing each other first. I admit I hoped that the ending would go in a different direction, but the series is what it is, and I don't fault the books for that. Even if some of the content ultimately doesn’t line up with my preferences or values, I can still appreciate them for what they are—lightheaded, steamy romps.

Kira's story is my favorite in the series so far. This one was the most high-stakes out of the first three books and I loved every second of it! According to the author's note, this was the first book of the series that wasn't serialized, and it shows. The story had great movement without feeling repetitive like the previous books sometimes do. AND we're introduced to a new mystery that I'm excited to read about in future books!
