I keep trying to think about how I would feel if middle school me would have read this book. I think I would have cried, just like I did now, and I think I would’ve been so angry with the country that I grew up in. I’m so glad that this book and many other books like this one are out there in the world. We should learn about these things at a young age, so that as we grow older we take steps to change the world to be a better place for the people who are treated as less than.

This book is essential reading for every single human. It's heartbreaking and heartwarming, a hug to every immigrant, a love letter to family. I utterly adored reading Betita's story and I'm so excited for it to take flight and soar.

Just beautiful. I'm not usually keen on novels in verse but this book may have changed that. This story is touching, painful, and hopeful. It's the kind of story you need a minute to recover from. The depiction of the ICE facility through the eyes of a 9-year-old broke my heart but I think it's something that needs to be seen. Grab your tissues but please read this.

Beautifully written and heartbreaking poetic YA novel about the struggles of immigrants to this country, and the turmoil and abuse that happens at our border. I was sucked in immediately, and had to keep reading.
