Aside from Henry's point of views, the story was great. I was not at all interested in the capturing of the German's for some reason. I understand the story there is a lot of underlining symbolism throughout the book. It proves that religion, family, and faith is what it takes to keep a family together. If one were to subtract religion, they could still keep a family together obviously.

It proves that one needs strength and a deep love for themselves to make it through life and to understand others. We as humans are not meant to be alone and relationships is all we have to keep us from going over the edge.

This was a great book and I do not recommend it to younger kids. There is an quick scene of lesbian kisses and oral sex as well. Cursing is huge in this book but it only adds to the story and does not hinder it. It is even sometimes funny in certain situations.

I got the feeling that I’m just not smart enough for this book. It started out really interesting and I enjoyed the characters and set it down for a few days and the next time I picked it up I just didn’t care anymore. It starts to venture into magical realism/fantasy coupled with writing devices such as journal entries, long passages in italics or a bit of script from a play. And putting it down for a day or two in between reads left me completely lost. I probably would’ve stuck with it if I could have remembered which character was which or cared enough about them to try to remember. In general, it seemed like very self-absorbed people who can’t see beyond their own problems.

This book didn't make me nearly as sad as I expected it would. I could have gone either way but overall I'm glad it ended the way it did. Two Teuthy books in one year (Mieville's Kraken was the other).

The floating cloud-man-thing really annoyed me. It was an annoying thing hanging around in this book and it really ruined the reading experience for me. Other than that horrible blight though, I liked this novel, it is odd but good. And yeah, like others have said, I could totally see this being made into a 'squid and the wale' type film.

good plot and drama but left me with alot of questions and didn't really have an ending direction... it was fine until it ended, which wasn't done properly

The story was just alright, nothing extraordinary but Meno's writing was fantastic.
