This book was just meh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It picked up right where the previous book left off, which was nice. However, I was just not wrapped up in the mother story line. It seemed a bit forced. I did not like that the vet, who I was a fan of when we first met her, was trying to make a move on Seth and his reaction upset me as well; he either didn't realize or noticed but did nothing to discourage it. I like that Seth is a genuinely good guy so I am trying to convince myself that he just did not notice. Now, on to the mystery. It was a little bland. The Emily Dickinson connection was a good idea that fell a little flat. I went back and forth between suspecting that it was Susan and Kenneth. I thought it might be professional in nature. The fact that he wanted to take credit for Susan's work was horrible, but her having killed him on accident was unfortunate. This story was a little lackluster.

I like this book a lot, but wish I didn't start the series in the middle. The pacing and structure of the book was different than many others I've read. This one really focuses on a genealogy search rather than questioning locals and disbelieving their alibis.
Spoiler This killer wasn't even a killer and poor Daniel died totally by accident (though he did seem like a total ass). The ending didn't involve a gun wielding killer that was desperate for their identity to stay quiet, willing to kill the detective, and spilling their guts and all their plans along the way before a brilliant rescue. I liked this refreshing change of situation. Poor Susan never meant any harm and was put into a terrible situation.

I liked the scene of this mystery and loved read in about the apple picking (even though Bree yelling COME ON TIME TO GO and Meg complaining about the money/how hard apple picking us did get old by the end). I also love how Meg lives in an old ancestral house and plans to restore it. I liked that her parents were involved even though Meg kept complaining about it. I think I can get used to Meg as a MC but in this one (maybe because of her parents' intrusion) she did exasperate me a bit. I don't really know how she ended up on this farm other than being fired and an old boyfriend, so I will definitely go back and start this series from the beginning. I LOVE the town setting and the authors writing!

A solid new addition to this series. I enjoy getting to know Meg and her family/friends. MINOR SPOILER AHEAD.......I really liked that Meg or her mom didn't have to be in mortal danger to solve the mystery. I honestly can't think of another cozy I've read where that's the case.

This book was nice & funny .However, the investigation itself was too long for the mystery.I knew who the murderer was so it kind of sucked

I have to say this series gets better with each book and I enjoyed this one more so than previous instalments. It was a bit slow-going through the first half of the book - lots of repetitive conversation between mother and daughter, but it picked up nicely the second half with an interesting story line about Emily Dickinson. I'll most likely check out the next book in the series.
