There were moments when I felt despite this book being written so long ago that the author was writing purely for my benefit. This book bypassed the part of my brain that likes to analyse and rip works of literature apart with its impeccable writing and characters so believable you feel they could walk into the room at any moment. As pretentious as this will sound, like all great books there is a spark of life and the book seems to meet your gaze while you read it.
