This book is LAUGH OUT LOUD funny! I could totally picture my 4 older brothers as the kids in this book.

I was looking forward to reading a humorous book for elementary kids. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. It was okay, but not fabulous. I have raised 3 boys so I thought SEVEN boys’ antics might be something we would enjoy as a family read. When I picked up the copy in the library it was in the adult section which instantly made me cautious.

The book is full of body humor which I just can’t find that funny...

My aunt convinced me to listen to the audio book on a road trip, and while it was pretty funny, it didn't keep my attention the whole ride.

This book was absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times, often late at night while reading in bed and my husband was asleep and I was trying to be quiet and then I'd just shake the bed with my laughter. Luckily he slept through it. ;) I love how the anecdotes are strewn together to make a story, although I was wondering about the title of the book until almost the end and then that is explained. The sweetest part of the book is when they go to grandma's on vacation and Matthew gets some one-on-one time with her (albeit after scaring the daylights out of her!!!) and their cute and poignant conversation. I loved that the dog's named was Farding and all the jokes that came with that (and what 9-year-old knows what that word even means and thinks up to use it instead of the one with a T??? I didn't until I read this!!) Great read, clean read. Really 4.5 stars for me.

A compilation of true stories from the author's childhood, Chickens is a hilarious story about events surrounding Buckley's father's decision to raise chickens and goats, and the frustrations the parents have with raising seven boys and no girls. This book made me wish I had brothers.
