This continuation of Jane and Trevor's story was not as good as the last installation (The Search). It had some promising moments, but seemed to fall flat towards the end.

Aaand... super teen Jane MacGuire returns - except she's no longer a teen. She is now 21 and in the middle of another dastardly plot to kill or be killed.
Also, our good friend Trevor returns...
Entertaining as always! :)

And sparks fly. Seriously, though, why does ALL THE SEX in Johansen's books have to be unrealistically hot and amazing? Good grief. Eve and Joe, Sarah and Logan, Alex and Judd, and now Jane and Trevor. It is irritating. It's just not realistic. UGH.Entertaining as always! :)

I really struggled to get through this book because of how corny the plotline was. Would not recommend it, only finished it because I have a mental block against leaving books unfinished- the sunk cost fallacy strikes again. Seems like half the conversation/inner monologue in this book was characters saying "dammit!" and "what the devil!"- I'm talking DOZENS of times.
Any character development seemed unnatural, like they just suddenly developed out of nowhere- very inorganic. But again, my main problem was the absurdly corny plotlines. I know it's fiction, but everything was a stretch. Especially how all these grown men are obsessed with a long-dead woman named Cira and because Jane looks like Cira, they're obsessed with her too.

I really like Jane better than I like Eve and these last two books that centered more around her have been some of my favorites by Iris Johansen thus far. I enjoy the suspense, the various characters, the interlocking pieces that she creates as you read.
