i don’t always understand what he is trying to say, but i like the way he says it.
reading this is like watching someone spiral into madness and trying to make sense of that. there is no doubt that he is talented and writes beautifully, and maybe i’m just not up to par with that. the poems i did enjoy were phenomenal.

This collection is beyond a rating. It’s truly a literary work of art. There are 62 pages to this poetry collection but it took awhile to get through. It’s the epitome of heartbreak, loss and grief. The collection is divided into three parts.

In the beginning, I thought the poems were about unrequited love, in the second part, it’s very violent and messy which to me, signifies when the narrator lost his lover and then the third part ties everything together with the aftermath of his loss.

The poems are heartbreaking throughout. The narrator desperately wants to hold onto his love but is met with the reality of the situation no matter how hard he tries. His grief and sadness is saturated in each poem. The desperation to be with his love even though it’s impossible, is very sad.

I thought about not rating it but decided to give it 5

I enjoyed most of the poems in this collection! Siken's language really is beautiful, and the emotions are so rich you feel them too. I re-read most of the poems twice, but I think I could keep getting more out of them from even more re-reads.
