After binging on several intense psycho-thrillers I needed to lighten things up a bit and knew Fannie Flagg would be just the ticket! This book managed to be light and quirky but at the same time tackles intense themes such as man's inhumanity to man, discrimination, and honesty and how we define success! Such a fun read! I recommend this one as one to surely lift your spirits!

I enjoyed this book. It was one of the first audio books I listened to driving back and forth to work and about half way through I realized I had already read it some time ago. So, I guess it wasn't terribly memorable, but I listened to it again and still enjoyed it.

Broad in scope, lots of character development. A solidly good read.

Very good book. Too long though. Could have eliminated at least 100 pages. But the ending is ineffable!!!

Well, this story wasn't a bad story, but I didn't think it was nearly as good as some of the reviews made it seem. I really loved Fried Green Tomatoes when I watched the movie and I was hoping that this would be similar or at least have a similar feel. I kept waiting for some of the funny parts that everyone talked about, but the only part I can remember where I really thought it was funny was when they were talking about death very mater-of-factly on the porch.

Other than that, I guess I just thought the book was alright. I did like seeing Dena change throughout the story. At first, I thought the story was going to be about alcoholism with the way that she was drinking at the start of the book, but this was just a very small part of the book.
