An Ugly Love by Maya Alden is a retelling of the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen and she has done a wonderful job taking this fairytale and made it all her own.

The characters are very diverse, it is nice to see that some of them were not perfect. Hansa is not just a normal perfect girl, and I just adored her. She is so sweet and determined. And I loved Orion as well, although at first I thought he was awful. He made such a change during the story. The writing style is simply lovely, and the setting with the winemaking and all, is a nice touch.

An Ugly Love is a very cute and sweet retelling, one I loved.

When there is a character you just want to wrap up in your arms and kick the butt of anyone that upsets them you know the author has written them well. That was Hansa for me. I love how this was a nice twist on the Ugly Duckling story and instead of a physical transformation it was more of a spiritual one. I wanted to punch Orion in the face quite a few times in the beginning lol, but he definitely had his redeeming arc.
