Nice introduction to a new steampunk/Victorian novel coming out soon, Gideon Smith and the Mechanical Girl. Mr. Walshingham pens a state of affairs to the queen of what he has done in her name to keep things at bay. They may look bleak but business goes as usual.

Odd story consisting of narrative and a letter being written; the condition of narration seems to fail, as the narrator spells out a lot of things that seem self-evident, but the ending fixes it. Overall, though, I am not a fan of the somewhat condescending tone that implies a significant amount of assumed incompetence from the Queen.

interesting world. Neat short story gives a very good picture of this world, all in the space of writing an end of the year report. Great storytelling. Looking forward to novels set in this world!
