This was a wonderful, understated story about making a family and a life with intention. There's nothing exceptional or remarkable about this story, but it's emotional in its simplicity. I enjoyed the writing style and appreciated the depiction of an unconventional family.

I didn’t like this book very much. The writing style was interesting. And I found the slurs, racism, homophobia, and the comments about the son’s testicles unnecessary.

It gets two stars because it’s all in all an okay storyline. I liked the idea, not the execution.

I had a lot of thoughts about DNF’ing this book. I won’t read it again.

Reading Ffitch has been a delight. Heartbreaking, uncompromising, and fiercely sincere. Ffitch's activism and commitment to her communities and her ideals come through with a power and maturity that I wish I saw more in modern fiction.

Stay and Fight is a haunting tale about family. It is a story of pain and loneliness and injustice. It is also a story of comfort and home and togetherness. It feels timeless and relevant, with commentary on the sapphic experience, misogyny, rape culture, poverty, labor exploitation, as well as the exploitation of Native Americans and land, especially by coal and oil companies. None of the characters are particularly likable and they seem to make only risky decision, likely to make their own lives even harder. However, I found myself invested in their lives and the outcomes of their struggles, thanks to the compelling writing, particularly the final third of the book. This is a heavy book but, boy, is it a good one.
