This was a wonderful, understated story about making a family and a life with intention. There's nothing exceptional or remarkable about this story, but it's emotional in its simplicity. I enjoyed the writing style and appreciated the depiction of an unconventional family.

well that sure was a book! honestly kind of conflicted how i feel about this. i enjoyed most aspects of it but at times, the writing was a pain to get through. especially perley's perspective which was very stream of consciousness.

i loved lily and found myself rooting for her to get the heck out of dodge. karen was kind of an asshole and helen was deeply annoying god bless <3. but i did like their little found family trio....quintet if you count perley and rudy. rudy! unexpected gem...kind of a mess but had his heart in the right place.

didn't love the use of the r word multiple times...this book came out in 2019...folks we're FAR past the need for this word to be used ever.

i feel like this book was a grittier version of 'where the crawdads sing' so that was fun ig.
