Instead of zombies destroying the world, its a bunch of blondes. Similar scenario, people become paranoid and everyone is trying to survive. The story is told in flashbacks and you wonder how her story unfolds.

The narrative was a bit too slow for me. I wasn't a fan of the constant switching between past and present. I felt it could've worked if it were executed differently. It couldn't keep my attention and I put it down a few times debating whether or not I should continue reading it. However, I did think that the story of what happened after the epidemic was well told.

I wanted to love this–the premise is so insane–but it had no idea what kind of book it wanted to be and suffered for it. Is it dystopian? Satire? Is it about the confusion and complexity of interpersonal relationships? Is it a thriller? It tried to be all those things in varying degrees and though it succeeded occasionally, especially early on, I found it increasingly aimless as the story progressed.

The premise sounded really cool, but ultimately this was pretty boring. Just wasn't what I was expecting.

I was gripped from the beginning (notice the was). Then about 30 pages in I felt like it was going nowhere. It was painfully slow, pointless, and unimpactful. Given the premise, I expected so much more. I kept reading thinking the book would redeem itself. By the end I hated the whole book and wondered why I wasted my time. I get that it was a commentary on our views of beauty, women, and society, but it fell flat. This 382 page book should be less than 200 pages. None of the characters are likable, especially the main character. It received rave reviews from Stephen King and Margaret Atwood, authors I adore. What a let down!

Had lots of potential but it fell short.
